Small, sweet, and portable, the Pangea Audio HP101 is one little gem of a budget-friendly headset amp. The HP101 hybrid vacuum tube/solid state headset amp was created by an engineering group led by prominent engineer/designer Jay Victor, who also carefully tweaked the circuitry for optimum performance. Jay chose discrete MOSFET outputs and a 12AX7 vacuum tube for best performance. It uses a Pure Class A, single ended design with no negative feedback and has an integrated USB DAC. Unlike other producers' headset amps in this cost class, the HP101 doesn't use op-amps in its output phase. In addition to its stunning performance as an earphone amp, the HP101 also excels as a USB DAC. The 24/48/96/ 192kHz compatible input lets you play high resolution digital audio files directly from your Windows or Mac computer. The DAC chip used is the extremely related to Cirrus Logic CS4344 24-bit/192-kHz DAC chipset. Every component and detail of the HP101 was picked for optimum performance. Jay insisted on using Wima coupling caps and Rubycon power supply caps, which contribute to the remarkable sound quality. These are the exact same electrical components used in lots of ultra high-end items. Unlike some other items in its cost class, the HP101 has an extremely rugged and considerable steel framework. This and the universal outboard power supply make the HP101 excellent to travel with.
